Finding My Tribe: A Year of Profound Growth
Blog content
One year ago, I embarked on a journey that would redefine my purpose and connect me with an incredible community. It all started at the Profound Disability and Accessibility Summit at Mohonk Mountain House. Profound, a startup with a mission to revolutionize disability inclusion in the workplace, quickly became so much more to me.
At the summit, I found my tribe. A vibrant group of people with disabilities, allies, and those who champion accessibility. It was a revelation after the chemical injury and stroke that forced me out of corporate Canada in the late 90s. Years spent with limited options, followed by the struggle to re-enter a workforce ill-equipped for my disability, were a constant source of frustration. Yet, I persevered, carving out a path for myself that many with similar disabilities couldn’t.
Now, as a coach with Profound, I can not only serve again, but truly make a difference. I help others with disabilities rise above limitations and thrive. Through Profound’s platform, I’ve connected with countless individuals, facilitated connections for others, coached, mentored, and learned from each interaction. Every encounter has been a source of inspiration.
A highlight of the summit was facilitating a Lego Serious Play workshop. In groups of six, attendees built creations that envisioned themselves and Profound in five years. The shared experience – building, reflecting, and learning – left everyone buzzing with excitement about the future we were co-creating.
A heartfelt thank you to all the members of Profound for a year of profound learning and exchange. A special thanks to Angus Scott, whom I met at an ICF NYC event. He serendipitously connected me with Meredith Sadoulet . Meredith, inspired by her neurodivergent child and the dismal employment statistics for disabled and neurodivergent individuals, left corporate America to launch Profound. By following her passion and unwavering sense of justice, she paved the way for this powerful and empowering network.
Meredith, thank you for creating this space where we can all shine.
Here’s to another year of growth, positive change, and amplifying the voices of the disability community!
