Day 7: Belonging Begins in the Body — LEGO Advent Coaching Calendar

Belonging Begins in the Body
Today’s LEGO Advent prompt is the House — not because you must build a house, but because we’re exploring the deeper meaning beneath it:
Belonging.
For many of us, belonging has very little to do with a physical structure.
Your build today might look nothing like a house — and that’s perfect.
Because belonging isn’t a building.
Belonging is a nervous system state.
It’s the moment your shoulders relax.
The breath that softens your chest.
The shift from bracing → to settling.
It’s the internal sense of:
“I’m safe here. I can be myself here.”
And the empowering news is that belonging can be cultivated from the inside out.
When we think of “home,” we often imagine a place, a group of people, or a moment in time.
But belonging is not limited to geography or relationships — it is a felt sense that lives in the body.
And yet, there are places and people who help us access that state more easily.
What My Build Meant to Me Today
My build today isn’t a house or a home — and that feels exactly right.
Because for me, home isn’t a structure.
Home is where my people are.
And my people are spread across the world.
Sometimes home is:
-
a phone call
-
a message that arrives at just the right moment
-
a shared memory with someone who has known you for decades
-
a conversation that makes you exhale
-
a quiet moment that reconnects you to yourself
Home is a feeling: safety, comfort, creativity, connection.
There are also places that will always carry that feeling for me — Moose Jaw and Montreal.
Two very different chapters of my life, yet both hold a sense of belonging I can return to, no matter how much time passes.
Today’s Reflection: What Grounds You in Belonging?
Instead of asking where you belong, today’s prompt invites a more grounding, solution-focused question:
What helps you feel like you belong?
What signals safety, comfort, or connection to your nervous system?
It might be:
-
a ritual that helps you settle
-
a familiar scent or sound
-
a conversation with someone who “gets” you
-
a place that holds your history
-
a creative practice
-
a moment of stillness
-
a value you return to
-
a memory that warms you
-
a community that sees you
Belonging isn’t something you earn —
it’s something you cultivate through awareness, connection, and self-attunement.
When belonging comes from within, it becomes portable.
You can carry it into relationships, places, transitions, and seasons of your life.
Your LEGO Build
Your build today does not need to look like a house.
It doesn’t even need to be structural.
Let it represent:
-
a sense of home
-
a moment of settling
-
a connection to someone or something meaningful
-
an internal shift toward safety or presence
Whatever “belonging” means in your body, let your hands express it through bricks, colours, symbolism, or abstraction.
If you feel called to share your build or reflection, I would truly love to see it — publicly or privately.
And if today’s theme brings up tenderness, curiosity, or a deeper noticing, let it guide you toward this gentle question:
What do you need to feel a sense of belonging?
Is it connection?
Familiarity?
Being seen or understood?
Safety?
Shared history?
Creativity, routine, or community?
Belonging is personal — and the path into it is unique for each of us.
Your LEGO build today doesn’t need to resemble a house to explore belonging.
Let it capture whatever helps your system settle into that feeling — however it shows up for you.
See you for Day 8.
